Terlingua, Texas Area RV Parks The Grand Canyon’s immense size — river miles long and up to 18 miles wide — makes it a must-see on any RV road trip, but discovering its many pastel shades and shadows, unique wildlife and pine-scented air is what makes this national park memorable. Plan ahead when visiting the canyon in an RV to maximize your time and avoid frustration when trying to navigate, park and camp.

Plan your route carefully to take parking, driving routes and campsites into account, especially if traveling in the busy tourist season during the summer months. Some camping spaces on the North Rim limit RV length to only 15 feet. Parking inside the park accommodates only a foot total vehicle length, and spots are difficult to come by during busy times. Catch a shuttle bus outside the Grand Canyon IMAX in Tusayan, where there is ample parking and plenty of vendors who sell shuttle tickets that include park admission.

Once inside, connect with the park’s free shuttle, which takes you to viewpoints, lodges, trailheads and other points of interest around the park. Year-round access and pull-through sites make it easy for RVs up to 50 feet long to camp with all the amenities. Make reservations far in advance, especially when traveling during busy summer months. The Village Shuttle Bus Blue Route stops at the entrance to Trailer Village, where it is easy to head to restaurants, trails and sightseeing adventures along the South Rim, making this the best place to enjoy the canyon without having a second vehicle in tow.

Next door, Mather Campground has access to bus routes but limits RVs to 30 feet and has no hookups. The North Rim Campground has no hookups, and most spaces are limited to a foot or foot maximum vehicle length; ask for a premium spot if you want views or a spot to accommodate up to a foot RV. Kaibab Camper Village is the closest place to camp with full hookups near the North Rim.
